Missing Thanksgiving for a Basketball Game: A Bittersweet Reality
Thanksgiving is usually a time for family, food, and reflection, but for some of us, this year’s celebration is looking a bit different. Instead of gathering around the table with loved ones, I’ll be on the road, preparing for a basketball game. While the excitement of competition is always there, missing out on Thanksgiving is definitely a bittersweet feeling.
Here’s what it’s like to balance the love for the game with the longing to be with family on a holiday like Thanksgiving:
1. The Clash of Priorities
Basketball, especially during the season, doesn’t always align with personal or family schedules. Games, practices, and travel often fall on holidays, and this year, that’s the reality I’m facing. It’s tough knowing that my team will be on the court, while my family is sitting down to a big meal without me. The decision to miss out on Thanksgiving is never easy, but it’s a part of the commitment I’ve made to the game.
Why It’s Hard: Thanksgiving is a time to recharge, catch up with relatives, and savor moments that only come once a year. Missing that makes me realize just how important those simple moments are.
